Red mulled wine is a warm and aromatic beverage made from red wine infused with a blend of spices, such as cinnamon, cloves, and citrus, creating a delightful winter drink. Served hot, it offers a comforting combination of rich wine flavors and festive spices, perfect for cozy evenings by the fireplace.
Ingredients
1 Orange, slice into 1/4 inch thick
2 cups Water
1/2 cup Brown Sugar
2 Cinnamon Sticks
1 tbsp Whole Black Peppercorns
1 tbsp Whole Allspice Berries
4 Whole Star Anise Pods
3 Whole Cloves
1 750mL bottle of Starfield Red Wine (soft, fruity)
10 oz Apple Cider
1 Splash of Starfield Blanc de Blancs
Directions
Preheat oven to 175 degrees.
Slice oranges no larger then 1/4 inch thick.
Place the orange slices onto a baking sheet and bake for 4 hours, flipping them over at the 2-hour mark.
Once the orange slices are done, combine orange slices, all spices, sugar and water into a sauce pan.
Bring the orange, spice, sugar and water mixture to a simmer and cook over low heat for 22 minutes.
Add 10oz of your favorite apple cider. Simmer for 1 minute.
Add your Red Wine and return to a simmer for about 2 more minutes. Be careful not to overcook as the wine will reduce.
Remove pan from heat. Cover and steep until well-flavored. We recommend letting it steep 5 to 10 minutes.
Once desired intensitiy is reached ladle 6oz portions into your favorite mugs. If you would like to make the temperature hotter, place in the microwave for 20 to 30 seconds.
Top with a splash of Starfield Blanc de Blanc. Please note this step is optional but this is how we serve it here at the winery.
